Jade Singers Celebrate TVB Anniversary

This year's Jade Singers Celebrate TVB Anniversary was extremely disappointing. There was lack of entertainment, singers, leaders, captains, and so on. The show started with the singers introducing themselves out side with Teresa Carpio and Alan Tam. After the introduction, all the singers went back inside to the studio where the events where being held. Both Susanna Kwan & George Lam were special guests. After the introduction, Eric Tsang & Carol Cheng started to bash each other's team, etc.

The first event was with George Lam singing his songs with Justin Lo, Deep Ng, Season Lee, etc playing acoustic and electronic guitars. The second event was called "Loving One Pole" performed by Jade Kwan, Elane Kwong, and Bianca Wu. They were pole dancing [their outfits were beautiful tho xP]. For the third event, Susanna Kwan lead Janice Vidal and Stephanie Cheng and they were singing and dancing to the 80s music. It was more like a broad way show. Most of the singers during the show had lots of dance routines instead of singing. Anyways, I won't go into detail but you will know what I'm talking about when you guys see it.

The entertainment factor of the night must have been Nat Chan's duet with Eric Tsang. Both of them acted as a heavenly king and sang some old songs. Here's a dialog of Carol bashing their performance:

Dodo (Carol): I think you guys need to apologize to our viewers for wasting their time and ours too!
Nat Chan: Dodo, what are you talking about? If you can do what we just did, I will do 3 sumersaults.
Dodo (Carol): You guys were out of tempo, off key, the language sucked, your english sucks!
Eric Tsang: Do you know anything about music? Ask Lui Fong to teach you!

*
My Comments: This year's show isn't exactly up to par with last year's and the year before. Everything was messy, unorganized, and there was absolutely no hyperness! Everyone was just standing/sitting around and some looked like they were falling asleep. Dodo and Eric had the most dialogs to say, while Teresa and Alan only had 2-3 lines to say. The song selections were poor. Susanna Kwan singing with Janice and Stephanie was a bore to watch [even though I am a hardcore Janice fan]! Like seriously, Janice and Stephanie are 20+ old and singing with a 46 year old doesn't match! Why don't we call it, "Bored Stars Celebrate TVB Anniversary"? I really had high hopes of this year's show, since I liked it so much last year.

how stupid can u be? TUFC - episode 15

At the end of episode 15 of The Ultimate Crime Fighter, Moses & his team were on a mission. The mission was to catch "Big Silly" because he was some kind of bad guy. When Moses saw Big Silly, he immediately asked Fo (Yuan Biao) and BT (Sam Chan) to follow him. As they were following Big Silly, a mysterious guy goes infront of Big Silly and talks to him. Fo, being smart decided to look away, but BT immediately shouted "Big Silly" which caused the mysterious guy to fire his bullet. Moses immediately drove his car to stop those theives and to catch them. Yoyo, who was on a semi-date [with Marco Ngai) decided to help too. In the end, those bad guys got away and Fo was hurt.

My Comments: I hate watching Sam Chan's character! He's so stupid! Yuan Biao was so smart to not have said anything! Anyways, I'm loving TUCF right now! More posts to come!

Men Don't Cry: Receives 33 Complaints?

Note: This is my second time translating news. Please understand that my Chinese is limited and I can only read so much!

Men Don't Cry: Receives 33 Complaints?
Translated by: Vinney @ TVB-Iconized

TVB's new series, <Men Don't Cry> aired for a week now and recently they have received 33 complaints by the citizens who are watching it. These complaints are about the use of inappropriate sayings in dialogs and also racist comments. In the series, Dayo Wong's character is always making fun of Cecilia Yip's prosthetic teeth. This raised some controversy with the people who were watching it, and said that those comments were being racist. Therefore, they filed 33 complaints to TVB regarding the <Men Don't Cry> series.

On the other hand, <The Ultimate Crime Fighter> received 15 complaints for being to violent and having swear words. Kevin Cheng commented, "Wow really? But my scenes are more violent! I will have something stabbed through me when I die in the series."

My Top 3: Most Improved Actor (TVB 40th Anniversary)

Since TVB's 40th Anniversary is coming up, I am going to pick out my top 3. Here are my top 3 for the Most Improved Actor:

1) Matthew Ko (Steps, The Ultimate Crime Fighter)
Why him?: Matthew started acting in 2006's Anniversary series' To Grow With Love. In TGWL, I found him quite good for a newcomer
and he's also quite a cutie too. We haven't seen much of him in early 2007 but when Steps aired, everyone knew who he was. In my opinion, Matthew has great marketability and a charming personality that everyone likes. Even though he isn't the hottest guy, he showed major improvement in Steps and The Ultimate Crime Fighter.

2) Jack Wu (Ten Brothers, Scoop)
Why him?: Jack has been acting for a really long time now and he should be deserved with some award. I really liked Jack last year in To Grow With Love as Lam Koon Hei. I thought he sacrificed a lot in order to become "fat" for the role. He showed major improvement and TVB needs to promote him more.

3) Lai Lok Yi (Glittering Days, Ten Brothers, Heart of Greed, The Green Grass of Home)
Why him?: He is going to win this 100% but why is he ranked so low in my list? Well.. I didn't like him ever since Hearts of Fencing aired and I still don't like him after all these years. In my opinion, I don't think he improved on bit since then. His acting is very pretend, fake and very over the top (Fathers & Sons). I actually don't want him to win.. but TVB is starting to like him now.

The Drive of Life - Episode 44

Such a sad episode for Myolie! Myolie found out the Charmaine lost the baby by accident when she went for a "pre-wedding check" at the doctor's office (which was also Charmaine's doctor too). Later Raymond was really angry at Charmaine for playing with his family and he asks Charmaine to kill him with a smashed beer bottle. But Charmaine gave in and they both embrace and cry. Myolie saw the whole situation and decided not to marry Raymond but instead she asks Feng Shao Fung to take a "early" wedding picture for her and Raymond.

My Comments: Sorry! I haven't updated for the longest time but I'll have more time soon, hopefully! Anyways, I thought Raymond was really selfish just using Myolie like that. Myolie was very pitiful! It's all Charmaine's vault!! But... Raymond's acting improved so much! His crying scenes were breathless!

Forensic Heroes 2 adds in TV King & Queen

Credits: SingTao
Translated by: Vinney

Last year's Forensic Heroes starring, Bobby Au-Yeung, Frankie Lam, Yoyo Mung, and Linda Chung was a huge success... pulling in 43 points in the last episode. A sequal is set to be filmed in September with new cast members and plots. Kevin Cheng and Charmaine Sheh will be included in the sequal. Producer Mui Siu Ching said, "We are preparing for the upcoming sequal but we will garauntee that the sequal will live up to the standards".

With the original cast and the TV King and Queen, Forensic Heroes 2 is set to be one of the anticipated series of 2007/08.

My Comments: I hope you enjoyed my crappy translation of the news. I can't wait for Forensic Heroes 2! I have a feeling that Frankie Lam is going to die and Kevin will star alongside Linda. But who knows? We'll all have to see for ourselfs!

[TVB-M] The Drive of Life; reasons for rating failure

The Drive of Life was one of the most anticipated and talked about series in 2007. Many people in the industry looked forward to seeing this 60 episode drama about Hong Kong's reunification back to China. The cast and crew had 8 month's to film for Drive, but could this be the reason why the ratings were only mediocre?

Raymond Lam
mentioned in an interview that the filming for Drive was quite hetic because they had to go to Canada, Shanghai, Beijing, and etc to film. Drive is also cooperating, for the first time with CCTV. Besides the TVB actors and actresses, there is also mainland actors and actresses. Some of them including, William Feng Shao Feng (dubbed as the Shanghai Daniel Wu). It is almost half-way before the drama ends, let's analyze why the ratings are somewhat the same.

Dubbing:
The dubbing for the mainland actors is very bad. Mainly, the person who dubbed William Feng's character. His talking was way over the top and exagarated in every single line. It doesn't match with the expressions that William is doing. TVB should really hire their kelefe's to dub these lines, instead of the other crappy people. Mind you, Leanne Li did an awesome job on her role, but why can't these people who do all the dubbing?

Toby Leung:
I'm sure everyone is going to agree with me for putting her as one of my reasons! Toby's acting is literally a piece of sh*t! She sounds like she's weak when she reads her dialogues, she looks older than Sheren Tang, and her crying scenes are absolutely horrible! I feel horrible for saying this, but Kate Tsui is better than her by 50%! Producer Leung Ka Shiu (Toby's dad) made a horrible decision to cast her in the Drive. I don't know about you guys.. but I am definately not going to be watching Cold Encounters Third Kind.

Story line:
Drive's story line focuses on how to make China's first brand named car. The story line is just way to draggy and it doesn't really follow along. One minute you see Jessica Hsuan's long hair, and the next it's short. It doesn't really intrigue the viewers and I think most of them don't really care about the making of cars. Overall, there's too much drama and the same storyline repeats over and over again.

Fun Factor: Heart of Greed

Fun Factor is an on going feature at TVB-I. This feature is mainly about me spotting little fun facts in dramas. Why is it fun? Well, because you might not notice somethings beforehand and you find it a little amusing to know. Well let's get started..

1st Fun Factor:
In Heart of Greed, Yan Yan (Fala Chen), Seung Joi Sum (Linda Chung), and Cho Pang (Carrie Lam) are three bestfriends. But in real life, all of them are pageant winners. Fala Chen is the 2005 Miss Chinese International 1st Runner up, Carrie Lam is the 2005 Miss Hong Kong 2nd Runner up, and Linda Chung is 2004's Miss Chinese International Winner. It's really amazing that all of them are pageant winners, but Fala and Carrie have less screentime than Linda.

2nd Fun Factor:
Susanna Kwan, Raymond Lam, and Linda Chung aren't the only singers in HOG. In fact, Ha Yu and Louis Yuen are also singers too! Louis got his start in the entertainment industry by entering the New Talent Singing Awards. On the other hand, Ha Yu also released an album in the 80s/90s. It would be really fun to see them all do another version of Susanna Kwan's Speechless. But I'm sure we'll see them to something in the comedic version of HOG!

3rd Fun Factor:
You guys might know this already but Lee Si Kei really had cancer when she was filming the sitcom, A Kindred Spirit. In HOG, "Dai Kai" also had cancer, perhaps the producers thought that Lee Si Kei would have 'experience' to act the scenes out. Lee Si Kei once mentioned in an interview, that she doesn't like her characters to have some kind of illness. But unfortunately, she has to portray some kind of illness in the 80 episode series, The Gem of Life.

My Comments: Hey guys! I'm sorry for not updating much but it's summer! Plus, I also have to update my Janice site. Sorry for any inconvience! I hope you enjoy this feature! More new features coming soon!

[TVB-M] Best Selling Secrets

Best Selling Secrets has been airing for nearly a year and the ratings just doesn't seem to pick up. Catherine Tsang is the executive producer for BSS. She especially invited Esther Kwan back for this sitcom. When everybody heard that Esther was coming back into TVB, we all knew that this sitcom is going to be great. But who knew the ratings would flop? I've also been watching this sitcom and I've got to say, it's not the best sitcom ever, but it's still enjoyable.

Prologue;
BSS is basically about Wong Ka Lam (Esther Kwan) coming back to Hong Kong after being abroad for nearly 10 years. But due to her overqualified resume, she finds it hard to get a job. Ka Lam than meets a taichi master, Ng Hang (Elaine Kam) who lives with her grandson, Luk Jit (Vin Choi). Luk Jit is actually Ka Lam's son. But, Luk Jit doesn't know that and eventually introduces Ka Lam to his company.

Ka Lam gets promoted to Business Consultant quickly by Vincent Yin (Wong Chi Hung), the CEO of "Ying Advertisment". This causes Diana Dai (Alvina Kong) to get jealous of Ka Lam and eventually the advertisment company becomes a battle field for the two ladies.

*
Character Portrayal

Esther Kwan as Wong Ka Lam: Esther is a excellent actress and she can portray any character. Wong Ka Lam's character is not a very good character for her to portray. I'd like her character to be similar to Armed Reaction.

Alvina Kong as Diana Dai: TVB made a wrong choice for Alvina Kong to star in this series or any other ones too. Let's face it guys, Alvina can't act! When she talks, all you see is a whole and she doesn't have any expression. She bites her teeth when saying lines! Argh! Alvina, go back to Las Vegas! But, I gotta admit.. Diana Dai is a good character.

Elaine Kam as Ng Hang: Elaine Kam can be annoying sometimes because of her language barriers. Her acting is still the same when she was over at ATV. She's still good portraying this role.

Vin Choi as Luk Jit: Never been keen on Vin but I can handle him in the series. It's very hard to believe that Vin is portraying a good guy. It kinda gives me the chills. lol

Stephen Au as Mo Gei Yung: Stephen's still the same old. Nothing changed. The character is funny tho.
*
My Comments: BSS is a mediocre series and it's enjoyable but sometimes boring. I would recommend it to people who have nothing to do and likes sarcasim and humor.
